I would like to try resin casting and I would like to know what I would need to make molds, what resin is good to use and what other things I would need to get?

It really depends on what and how much. Do you want to spend a lot and hope to turn into a job or just make some parts here and there for yourself. Business you would need a pressure pot, and vacuum tank or chamber. Ways to measure resin / silicone. And a lot more small things that you can get here and there buy and use as you learn.. If you just want to just make some things for yourself and friend there are several ways to cut corners cost wise.
In the beginning for myself just playing I found ways to save tons of money at that time I had no choice but to go very cheep. The good thing was I learned a ton of ways to do things and got to the point I could slush cast so clean you almost could not tell it was slush cast.
I started using a single mold not a two piece. No way to pressurize it or no reason to either. As my work got better I wanted to learn more and more. Also I had a lot of past experience working with fiberglass molds. That alone is very similar to doing resin. Knowing how to put parting lines etc. So that you can get the parts out after they cure, dry, fire, kick etc many terms can and will be used. You will need to learn terms like undercut overcoat etc etc. I will be willing to give you all the info I can because right now I can't really do any work. But the main reason I got this forum going was because back when I started looking there was nothing I could find that was any good or really explained why you will do things different for different things or times . So do you best at letting me know what you plane or how big you want to try and get and between Greg and myself we will do our best to help you out and don't be afraid to ask there is no dumb questions. If it does bother you to ask on public forums you can do a P.M. and we will still get them to you. The next couple of days I will be very busy and probably won't even be able to look. After that I will check and see Thanks Excrewchief.

Thanks.
I am planning on just casting some parts for myself like engine parts, axles, seats, tires and rims. I am not looking to no stuff to sell....... yet so it doesn’t need to be the best quality stuff.

At this point to start out. The best way that i know is if you a hobby lobby near you to check out the alumalite kit that has everything in it. Use the 40 % off coupon to start out you really can't beat the price and it come's with almost everything you need to start doing small casting. It will have clay, silicone, and the casting resin all in the kit along with measuring cups stir sticks the only thing extra is to find some wood alcohol to clean up with. Let me know if and when your your ready and ill keep going as your ready.

I don’t have a hobby lobby anywhere closse to me but I found some different kits on amazon and I will see if my local hobby shop can order me in a kit.
I seen that there was a supper casting kit and a mini casting kit. What would be the best? I will probably have a lot more questions as I go along. Thanks.
