Should be ready soon, the latest Holy Grail offering, included will be either a '62 or a '63 grille to make either year. The hood will be separate, and this will be a transkit using any of the AMT '60-'61 Ranchero donor kits. -Mike S.

That is looking very nice . I can remember building a wagon back when I was about 6 years old. Also did a few of the real rancheros 1: 1 scale installing the late model mustang engine trans computer control etc. In the late 80s early 90s Sure brings back memories thanks for the post of this one. You really know how to hurt a guy. I had a 64 for years. It started as blk/blk factory 4 speed 260ci the amount of work I did would blow you mind then it for stolen . Long story but after about 4 yrs a kid called me wanting to get the title. After getting names and a bunch info he put everything he had into fixing it up in his high school shop I told him to come on down and gave him the title. The sad part the only pictures I had got lost in a move 10 -15 yrs ago.. some day I'll tell you the rest of the story. You will love it or hate it. ?

I have a similar story, my red '64 Sprint HT that I had in high school in the '80s, did all sorts of work to, swore I'd keep it forever, only to have it wrecked (with me in it) in '98. I got the Ranchero to replace it, but it wasn't my first Ranchero, a black/red '63 deluxe 260/4spd came before it, and a '61 with a Comet front clip on it before that. I've always had a Falcon or Comet since about 1982, 2 Falcons and a Comet now, the '60 Comet 2dr wagon is in my avatar. That will be another HGR exclusive one of these days, a project that I've wanted to do for a long time now, as I've owned the wagon since 1988 or so.

I'll keep this project current. I have to revise the bed trim, as AMT never got that right, and fill the fender ornament holes as Rancheros didn't have those.

The 64 - 65 Ranchero is the one I am looking to cast to build one like I had. Mine even had black diamond tuck interior

If it had a diamond tuck headliner, that's the ultimate '70s cruiser. Root beer brown metallic paint, orange and yellow pinstripes, lift shackles, and G-60s on deep and narrow slot mags complete the image. "Is that Freedom rock? Well turn it up!" As to the '64-'65 Ranchero, Modelhaus made one in the 80's-90's, I have one and it isn't that good, and more recently Trumpeter did a '65 as a stock or street rod version, a good kit but not totally accurate, I have these too and will someday build a model of my '65. So the '62-'63 was the only early Falcon Ranchero not yet put in plastic or resin. Others not yet seen are the very nice looking '67, the similar '66 with the Falcon front clip, and the somewhat boring looking '68-'69. I'd like to do a '67 Fairlane 500 Ranchero in the future, that's always been clanging around in there somewhere.

Is the 64 - 65 good enough to start a new master to make an accurate version. I was getting ready to start a clay sculpture and make a master that way i just got clay to try and do that with. I was going to do a 64 ranchero then after that i was going to do a meyers towd because the the towd was my 3rd car but first after getting my drivers license and wanting to do a build of cars that i have owned and there have been way to many from 13 yrs to 21 yrs could be a very interesting just 13 to 18 I had a 57 karman ghia. Simca. Myers Towd. 67 mustang. 55 ford f100 flatbed at 17 me and a friend bought drove and sold 17 mostly 55 Chevys. But 17 55-56 Chevy only 1 was a convertible. 2 63 ford 500 six cylinder 3 speed.a 48 diamond rio. 4spees w/ 3 speed Browning it had a Chevy 6cyl. A Devin. 64 ford ranchero. 65 chevelle . 65 ford mustang red/red 6cyl 3 speed 1 owner. 74 Yamaha RD 350. Hodaka 100 Rm 250 Suzuki. 250 montessa la cross. These all ran and drove except the seven. Then I got another 55 ford longed stepside p/u y block truck 4 speed that had the most oddball wheels and tires 19". It was a 3/4 ton but had the f100 makings back then I used to go to riverside road course and Laguna seca alot so i was in to making my cars low and wide.not like most people back then all my friends were air shocks shackles. Helper springs over the shock etc. My rancharo i had cut front springs. Then I bowed the rear fenders panels from the door to taillight and had squeezed. A n50 inside the fender with no flairs. Used to freek. Everybody out they could not figure. Out how I got that tire under the car. Or how it sat so low. Pull apart the leaf pack take all small.short springs out add 1 or 2 long springs then add the air shock.

Which '64-5, the Modelhaus or the Trumpeter? Whichever one, it really depends on if you want to cast custom bodies for yourself, or if you want to sell them. I never ask Greg to cast anything for me unless I know it will sell enough to warrant the trouble, and I've always felt that the best selling resin bodies are the subjects that were never available in either plastic or resin in the past - unless the resin hasn't been available for some time and - most importantly - it's a new and better master than what was available before.
Since the Trumpeter Ranchero is available, a resin kit wouldn't do very well, better to do a version of that kit that's not been offered yet - like a sedan delivery or two door wagon, or even a wood-sided Squire wagon transkit for the Trumpeter. I know that a '65 Comet Villager (Squire) wagon transkit for the brand-new Moebius '65 Cyclone kit would sell like crazy, but that's a lot of fab work and, like everything else, it has to be perfect.

The reason I'm thinking of doing the rancharo is the shape of the body and I have some new things to try for mastering (for me anyway ) and the body is such a simple design. And if it works the way I want then it would be more of a custom that would differ from the rest. I do agree with everything you have said as far as a normal choice of what and why you should chose its far to much work to sell one .Plus cost . Now a sedan delivery would in fact be a nice one to do. Dont know how many would sell the drag racers might like it as it did look good running down the 1/4.

That was Mike Hanson that I mailed parts to. I almost have yours done. One of the Tail light parts comes out much nicer than the other. The grilles are real nice. It might be easier to just drop them by since I work near you, Mike. Work has just been crazy. I only get to the PO on Friday's and Saturdays. That body is really looking nice.

Mike, Getting ten perfect bumpers to send for chrome plating has been a task. Also only one of the tail light bezels comes out good enough to chrome too, I have seven good sets and lots of bad ones. You will have an abundance of hood "V" parts. They are easy to make and always come out nice.

Sounds great, Greg. We have to find out who the other guys use for chroming. I can use Chrome Tech like I've been doing for years, but in production someone else may be less expensive.

www.platingsales.com/index.htmlI had a check for 5 grand ready to mail to purchase equipment to do it in house but Rocky talked me out of it. I wish I would have mailed it. BUT.......I am only one person with two hands. I can barely get anything done now. I am hoping I get back on the weekend shift. There is a page about electropolishing. This section is also of interest to me. Just another way to make some money.

Got the hood cut out yesterday. When you cut the hood or trunk out of a body, you always wind up with that panel being a little too small for it's opening. The solution is to glue strips of Evergreen or Plastruct to the sides of the hood and shape it. The engine compartment with spring towers is from a Monogram 1:24 '65-'66 Mustang, those are my go-to kits for a nice engine bay into a towerless AMT body. The Monogram part is going to be shortened and narrowed to fit the Falcon engine bay. Then I'll add hood underside detail.

Looking very nice . A lot of people don't understand what it takes to make it that nice and the time involved or how many times you have to get up and walk away for a while then you throw in the underside of hood all I can say is thanks and keep up the good work...

It mainly takes patience. If you're the high-strung type, this isn't the hobby for you. Body modifications have always been my favorite part of model building, and building masters is just that, without all that annoying painting and final assembly stuff.

I know what you mean there are times I love to sit and do the intracut super detail things but there are other times I can't get it done fast enough. Those are the times I need to set it down and walk away for awhile.or other times I get into super detail to the point that i dont want to do the next one because I can't seam to get it a good as I want. I like when I can hit the happy medium to get it all done the way I want it and not burnt out at the end. And can still move my fingers ...
